The key to success in the game of golf is self-assurance in your abilities. In order to become a better golfer you need to spend a substantial amount of time practicing. Since many players have all different types of body types, its hard to use someone else’s style for your own. In order to find your proper swing, you need to find what works and adapt to any new challenges. Check out the tips below for a little insight on how to perfect your golf swing.
Always, Always, Always warm up before playing!
It’s key that you make sure your loose before you play any golf matches. Further, you should always hit the driving range, chipping green, and putting green before you start any game. This will ensure you are properly warmed up and ready to hit the links. Knowing the course and your swing before you play can be a huge advantage.
The easy way to warm up is by swinging each of the clubs, with or without hitting a ball. Preferably you should start with your shortest club and move your way up to the longest club. Remember to not how each club is playing on the date so you can reference that while making your club choices.
Maximize Your Power
Like baseball, the power of a swing is derived from the legs and torso, not the arms and wrists. The reasoning is quite simple if you think about it. The muscles in your legs and torso are typically much stronger than those in your arms. In order to have a powerful swing you need to capitalize on these muscles. During your downswing, you need to twist your trunk and uncork your body to maximize the club head swing prior to impact with the ball.
With power comes problems though. The harder you swing, typically the less consistency you will have. To counteract this, we need to perfect our balance and stance. Try warming up on the driving range to ensure you have proper balance. Then start speeding up your swing and counteracting any defects with prior rotation and balance.
Weight Balancing
If you’ve heard any golf teachers or professionals, they will tell you that your weight is a big factor in golf. No, not what the scale says but rather the ratio of your weight on each of your feet. Ideally, the ratio should be 60% on your back foot and 40% on the front foot. This actually is ideal only during the setup and backswing. During your downswing and follow through, your weight should be transferring from your back foot to your front foot. This in turn will help your swing pattern and also give you a little extra power.
As you can see, perfecting your golf swing can be a little tricky and time consuming. Please note that the pay off in the end is 10 fold though!
